Holographic Sticker Maker

Holographic sticker maker: rainbow foil over your picture, a white die-cut border and a shadow on deep violet. Save a still, or a clip where the foil shimmers.

What is a holographic sticker?

A holographic sticker is printed on foil vinyl that throws back rainbow colors, and they shift as you tilt it. The look goes back to the rainbow hologram, which Stephen Benton invented at Polaroid in 1968 so it could be seen in ordinary white light. Mass-produced copies are embossed into foil and show up on credit cards and banknotes.

This tool makes the digital version. It lays rainbow foil over your picture, then cuts it out as a sticker with a white border and a drop shadow.

Foil on the art, plain white on the border

The page chains two effects, Holo Foil first and then Sticker. Since the foil goes on first, it only covers your picture, and the border added afterward stays plain white.

The sticker starts on a deep violet backdrop, dark enough to make the foil colors stand out. A PNG with a transparent background gives you a sticker shaped like its subject, and any other photo becomes a rectangle with rounded corners.

How to make a holographic sticker

Start with a picture or a clip. In Holo Foil, Amount sets how strong the rainbow is, Bands how often it repeats, Angle which way it lies, and Glitter how many glints catch the light.

In Sticker, Size, Border and Border colour shape the rim, Shadow sets how dark the shadow is, and Backdrop picks the color behind. Tick No backdrop to save the sticker by itself.

Each effect has its own presets. Prism or Oil slick changes the foil, while Thick border or Cut out changes the sticker.

Settings for a seamless shimmer and a light listing photo

For a clip that loops without a jump, set Glitter to 0 and Speed to 1 in Holo Foil, then record for 8 seconds. The foil gets back to where it started after 8 divided by Speed seconds. The glints run on a longer cycle, 40 divided by Speed, which is 20 seconds at Speed 2.

The Subtle preset (Amount 0.35, Glitter 0.15) gives a pale sheen that keeps faces and small type readable.

For a listing on a light page, set the Sticker's Backdrop to a pale lilac like #f1edf7 and choose Prism. Its tight straight bands still read as foil in a small thumbnail. The plain white version of the same cut is the Sticker Maker.

Will a printed holographic sticker look like this?

Not exactly. Redbubble's sticker guide says its holographic stickers print on rainbow film with no white underlay, so the white parts of a design end up the most reflective and the dark parts block the film.

Here the foil is added as light over the picture and is strongest where the picture is dark, which is the reverse of the printed film. Use the mockup for a post or a preview, and judge the real shine from a printed sample.

Saving a holographic sticker

The shimmer really belongs in a video. MP4 holds the smooth rainbow, while a GIF's 256 colors a frame cut it into bands. For a still, PNG keeps the glints' small bright cells that JPG blurs away. If you want the foil without the border, use the Holographic Foil Effect.
