What is a framed art mockup?
A framed art mockup shows a print or painting the way it would hang, framed and matted on a wall. It helps a buyer picture the piece in a room when they're looking at a shop listing or a portfolio.
The frame, mat, glass and wall are all drawn by a shader in your browser instead of photographed. There's no brand in the scene and no stock photo to credit or license.
What does a mat do in a picture frame?
A mat, also called a mount or passe-partout, is a thin paper-based board that sits between the frame and the picture. It holds the art away from the glass and gives it a border of plain space.
Here, Mat sets the border's width and Mat colour its color, and 0 leaves it out. A thin dark line marks the bevel where the mat is cut, and the frame throws a small shadow onto it along the top and left.
How to make a framed art mockup
Upload your artwork or a video and pick a preset: Framed, Poster, Oak, Gallery or Square. Shape keeps the artwork As it is, or crops it from the middle to 2:3, 3:4, 1:1 or 3:2.
Size sets how tall the framed piece is, Frame how wide the bars are, and Frame colour what color they are. Glass adds a faint sheen, Shadow darkens what the frame casts on the wall, and Wall sets the wall's color.
Tick No wall if you want only the framed piece, on a transparent background.
Settings for a two-inch mat and a frame without one
For a mat a fifth as wide as the print is tall (two inches around a 10-inch print), use Mat 0.1 with Frame 0.016 at Size 0.72. Mat counts in frame heights, so that share shifts when Size does.
For a picture that sits right behind a wooden frame, set Mat to 0 and Frame to 0.03. Frame colour #9a6a3a is the oak from the Oak preset.
Gallery gives you a white frame, a mat of 0.09 and a pale wall with a lighter shadow, the look of a print in a show. For a poster in a thin frame with no mat, start from the Poster Mockup Generator.
How do I show one artwork in several frames for a listing?
Load the picture once, switch presets and save each one. Just watch the artwork's size: the frame and mat come out of Size, so a wider set makes the art smaller. The artwork's height is Size minus twice the sum of Frame and Mat.
To keep the art the same size across the set, raise Size by the difference. With Framed at its 0.72, Oak needs Size 0.73 and Gallery needs 0.79 for the artwork to match.
Saving a framed art mockup
Paintings and photographs are fine as high-quality JPG, which keeps a listing's set of images light. Line art, lettering and the mat's fine bevel line hold their edges better as PNG.
