C64 Image Converter

The Commodore 64 had a fixed palette of 16 colors, and it is still recognizable at a glance. This converter maps a picture to those 16 colors and uses ordered dithering to stand in for the shades the palette lacks, so skin tones and skies come out as patterns of two neighboring colors rather than flat blocks.

Dot size sets the dither dot, Spread how far the pattern pushes colors (lower it for a cleaner look), and Brightness and Contrast adjust the tones first. Choose Bayer for the period crosshatch or blue noise for an even grain. Game Boy, CGA and PICO-8 presets are a click away.
